Story…raw…real…transparent

Blackside Publishing is passionate about supporting the veteran and Gold Star Family communities and their causes. To bridge the gap between writer and reader, we're all about telling stories. Raw. Real. Transparent.

Marty Skovlund, Jr. contacted Scoti Domeij, the Gold Star mother of Army Ranger Sgt. First Class Kristoffer Domeij—the most deployed soldier in American history to be killed in action. Their first contact gave Marty an idea for a book.

When Scoti told Marty, "I have no clue who my adult son was. He never talked about what he did in the Rangers. Ten years of his life are a black hole to me," Marty pulled together firsthand stories written by Army Rangers and family members.  The anthology, The Violence of Action: The Untold Stories of the 75th Ranger Regiment in the War on Terror along with Leo Jenkins' book, On Assimilation: A Ranger's Return from War, and…well...the rest is Blackside Publishing history.

Scoti serves as the Vice President and Media Liaison for the Pikes Peak Chapter of the American Gold Star Mothers and the Colorado Department of American Gold Star Mothers. She also writes for HavokJournal.com, an online military journal.

To honor her son and all who've died while serving our country, in June 2019 at the 75th D-Day Anniversary in Normandy, France, Scoti tandem-jumped with Rangers, who served with her firstborn. DevinSupertramp's team filmed the jump with Rangers and The Horse Soldiers and produced a 40-minute documentary Here Am I, Send Mewhich premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival at BrandStorytelling.

Men and women died to protect our freedom of speech. Blackside Publishing honors that tradition paid in blood and precious lives. We publish books that entertain, educate, offer hope and healing, and also challenge our readers with stories from different points of view that are raw…real…and transparent.
